History of the house

Three centuries of Caffarelli

In 1681, Philippe Caffarel received a ruined estate in the heart of the Lauragais. His descendants raised an extraordinary family of brothers here: an engineer general killed in Egypt, an aide-de-camp to the Emperor, a bishop, a maritime prefect. The house has never left Philippe’s descendants.

“At Le Falga, even the stones can read.”

Collines du Lauragais en été

The Lauragais

The land of plenty, between Toulouse and Carcassonne

Rolling hills, dovecotes, bastide towns and windmills: the Lauragais owes its wealth to woad, the “blue gold” of the Renaissance, and then to Pierre-Paul Riquet’s Canal du Midi. A still-secret region, perfect for exploring during your stay.

  • Lac de Saint-FerréolThe Canal du Midi’s reservoir: swimming, lakeside walks and gardens.
  • SorèzeThe abbey-school where the Caffarelli brothers studied, and its Hall of Illustrious Pupils.
